Create an itinerary including Dublin Castle
A taste of medieval times in the middle of a modern downtown, Dublin Castle served as the seat of British rule in Ireland for over seven centuries. Although it remains part of a major government complex, the castle now mostly serves as a venue for ceremonial events, such as the inauguration of the country's president. Transformed over the ages from a medieval fortress to a Georgian palace, the castle complex contains an 800-year-old tower, the sole survivor of the original fortifications built on this spot in the early 13th century. Take a guided tour to see the gardens built over a site once occupied by a black pool, the "dubh inn" from which the city of Dublin got its name. • Firstly if you expect to see a castle know it was transformed into a palace for the old viceroy. Lovely building with lots of information on it's history. Plenty of fantastic rooms to look through...

  • A bit disappointed with this castle 🏰 I've been to so many that this one looks bland in comparison. The price is quite expensive for a self guided tour for such a small castle. There is close to no sign explaining the paintings, we don't know who painted them, when it was painted and where it is from. Moreover the lighting could use some serious work, you cannot even take a proper look at a lot of those painting because the light is blasting onto them. The rooms explanations are a bit short. I don't feel like I learn a lot during the visit. The staff wasn't nice at all compared to the other places I've visited in Dublin so far. On the bright side, the buffet hall looks incredible! I really liked it. I also enjoyed one of the last room with the sculptures looking alike paintings! If you have spare time, spare money, and it's raining outside go check it out. Otherwise I wouldn't bother putting it on my bucket list. Go the Chester Library instead, the staff is great there and the collection is pretty damn cool 😜
  • A beautiful building showcasing where the viceroy of Ireland had lived until Ireland received its independence. We decided to embark on the self-guided tour and they did provide a very comprehensive booklet filled with information about each room and the different events and purposes for each one. It is quite a lovely castle, but unfortunately, only a few rooms are open and one can't go into the church/tower without going on a guided tour. There are also a lot of paintings and artwork that don't have signs and are not well-explained. More information would have been nice to have under/near some of these as well. There is still a lot one can see with opulent rooms, a throne, and beautiful halls
