Also known as Pamban Bridge, Annai Indira Gandhi Road Bridge was India's first sea bridge, built in the early 1900s with a double-leaf bascule section that raises to allow passage of ships. The bridge connects the town of Rameswaram on Pamban Island to mainland India and consists of both a road bridge and a railway bridge. You can walk and jog across the bridge, or you can catch a train instead for the opportunity to take fantastic photos of the bridge contrasting against the blue sea. • An amazing place. Try to visit it early morning during sunrise. It will be less crowded and you'll get to see fishermen taking out their boats or some even returning after their catch. You'll probably get to see the train going by as well. It's amazing that the railway bridge is still functional even though it looks really old and rusty. A must visit.
  • It's an architectural marvel in modern India. It should be in everyones visit once in lifetime places. The only challenge is the best view of Pamban rail bridge is from the road bridge above it, but you are not allowed to stop your vehicles on the road bridge. So you have to stop illegally have a quick view of rail bridge and continue to drive. Else take an early morning walk through the bridge and spent some time admiring it's beauty. Once sun is up it will get hot very quickly. One more beauty is the shades of blue and green to the sea water when you look down the sea from the bridge.
