Krishnabai Temple, Mahabaleshwar

#4 of 7 in Historic Sites in Mahabaleshwar
Ruin · Religious Site
Visit the source of the Krishna river inside the Krishnabai Temple, where the river emerges from the mouth of a statue of a cow. The temple is said to be a few thousand years old, and, in spite of being in ruins, is kept very clean. Follow the trail which takes you through the forest to the antique temple, providing panoramic views of the hillside. Bring your camera to capture its breathtaking beauty on a photograph. Listen to the priest explaining how the first sunrays fall on the shiv ling, an effigy of the god, and energize the whole complex. It is stated that this is a reason no electricity exists in the temple, as the energy destroys light bulbs. • Very close to the old Mahabaleshwar market, this is located at a walkable distance from the market. Once you reach this temple, it is very calm and serene and the view is awesome. Not to be missed.  more »
  • Visited and Prayed at the Temple. Despite the Pandamic the temple maintained the standard protocols. View from this locale was superb.  more »
  • You need to deviate from the main route as there are no clear indication to where this temple is located. The temple is an old ruin with only one building being the temple itself. It is quite worth the walk as the view facing the temple is amazing and the temple is also quite interesting. Feel free to take loads of pictures as it is quite secluded from heavy crowds, so take your time to enjoy this temple.
  • This is one temple where it is still maintained in the way it was made. No Electricity and no modification. But a lot of physics and science and God's creativity . We could see the water flowing. Amazing and unbelievable... Thank you God P.S. In few of my pics check the ants going around the water body. It is like they are also performing something...if only we could talk to them
