Schloss Favorite, Rastatt

4.4
Discover the opulent interiors of one of Germany's finest Baroque buildings, Schloss Favorite, the oldest of the so-called "porcelain palaces." Once a pleasure and hunting palace used by the widow of Louis William, an imperial general and ruler of Baden, the castle now houses a large collection of Chinese porcelain and lacquered ornamental objects. Originally only used for several weeks a year, the castle grounds became an idyllic setting for extravagant concerts, banquets, and hunting parties. Today, the palace is open to visitors, offering not only a look at the world's largest collection of porcelain, but also a rare insight into the lives of Europe's wealthy rulers. Be sure to spend a little time strolling through the palace's sprawling English gardens. Check online for opening times, guided tours, and ticket prices. • The place you would love to be visiting during summer with lots of open space. Great for family picnics, great walks, just lots of opportunities to enjoy life. I have now visited there twice.  more »

  • I enjoyed every moment of it. It brought back many memories from 2007 when I was here with my late husband. I love it.
  • A Unique & Oldest "Porcelain Palace" in Germany!! Built over 300 years ago, this "Porcelain Palace", located near Rastatt and the Black Forest, is not the only such Palace still in its "original form"-- but is also Germany's oldest... It is a "small Palace" with incredible furnishings, including a substantial collection of Chinese Porcelain- as well as German/Schwartz Porcelain and "Black Lacquer work". The guided tour is in German-- but their are descriptions available in other languages. The Palace also has a wonderful park surrounding it. It has also been awarded TripAdvisor's "Certificate of Excellence". It can also be visited as part of a "package" including "Residenzschloss Rastatt". It is definitely worthy of a visit. I hope that this Review has been helpful.
