Currently the seat of the French Senate, Luxembourg Palace is a 17th-century palace with original artwork and a grand salon you can tour. The palace was commissioned by Marie de Médici in 1625, and the painting "Coronation of Marie de' Médici in St.-Denis" is displayed in the Gallery of Residents. Also look for portraits of Anne, Duchess of Montpensier; Louis XVIII of France; and Cardinal Richelieu. Beautiful landscape, touring the garden area is a must! But be wary of doing so on a sunny day, it will be busy for sure! I went when it was slightly rainy and cloudy, and while there were still a lot of people it wasn't too bad. Not sure if you're allowed to have picnics here - certainly no one was stopping for a meal when I was there - but it would be a great place to relax over lunch.

Beautiful but beaware of of going in the rain. Will destroy your shoes. However there are a few nice pavilions to take shelter in. Check out the fountain, it really is lovely. Across the street there's several good cafes with a view of then palace.
