#3 of 7 in Casinos in Ile-de-France
A 57 hectare (140 acre) horse-racing facility with historic roots, Longchamp Racecourse sits on the banks of the Seine River. It's primarily used for flat racing and noted for its variety of interlaced tracks plus a famous hill that provides a real challenge to competing thoroughbreds. Tracks range from 1,000 to 4,000 m (3,280 to 13,123 ft) in length, with 46 different starting posts. Horses first raced at the track on Sunday, April 27, 1857. The Emperor Napoleon III and his wife, Eugénie, attended this inaugural event, having sailed down the Seine River on their private yacht to watch the third race. Artists have also been attracted to this track. Among those who've painted here are Édouard Manet in 1867 and Edgar Degas in 1871. • Newly renovated and suitably luxurious. The new racecourse and facilities are wonderful both for racing and also for conferences. Bravo..
  • The reconstructed race track is no improvement whatsoever with respect to the old one. The current shortcomings are well known. The architect has just missed the opportunity.
