5th Arrondissement, Paris

4.8
Located on the left bank of the Seine, 5th Arrondissement is one of the oldest districts in Paris, dating back to the Gallo-Roman era. Traces of the area's ancient past are evident in several archaeological remains, such as Roman baths and amphitheaters. Since the medieval times, the district has been known for its Quartier Latin--the area around Sorbonne dominated by higher education institutions. Bookworms should visit Shakespeare and Co., one of the more iconic bookstores in the city. Other interesting sites include Pantheon, Grande Mosquee of Paris, and a museum dedicated to Pierre and Marie Curie.
