Lake Leitisvatn, Vagar Island

#6 of 11 in Nature in Faroe Islands
Water Body · Nature / Park
Covering an area of 3.4 sq km (1.3 sq mi), Lake Leitisvatn ranks as the largest lake on the Faroe islands. Visitors come here to witness the lake's optical illusion: despite being only 27 m (90 ft) above sea level, a steep cliff in front of it makes it seem much higher when observed from a certain angle. In addition to its dramatic panorama of rock formations, a scenic waterfall flows from the lake.
