Create an itinerary including Longhua Temple
Pay a visit to Longhua Temple, a complex known for its ancient seven-story pagoda. Though many of the temple buildings are reconstructions of earlier designs, the site as a whole has retained the Song dynasty architectural style it gained when rebuilt in 977 CE, with the overall layout following the Sangharama Five-Hall Style common to Chan Buddhist temples during the period. The pagoda's upturned eaves, decorative balconies, and ornate banisters have been repaired over the years, but its brick base and body date all the way back to the 10th century CE. Join the worshippers or simply watch and take in the atmospheric scene. To visit Longhua Temple on your holiday in Shanghai, and find out what else Shanghai has to offer, use our Shanghai.

  • One of the very interesting places to experience the Chinese New Year and 春节 is the Longhua Temple in South Shanghai. The temple provides very unique cultural experience during this important holiday - take a look at the photos. Plan to visit if at all possible in the eve of Chinese New Year and on the first day of the New Year…
  • We enjoyed a brief visit to the Temple area. It was very busy during a weekend before Spring Festival, which made it more fun to be there and speak with people. There are several buildings and places were many people were praying or offering respects. In addition to the Temple and buildings there is a small grocery/food store there and a couple of places to shop for buddhist jewelry (beaded bracelets, necklaces, figurines, etc.
