Guarded by a four-headed lion mounted on a huge pillar, Jing'an Temple stands as Shanghai's most famous religious center. The large Buddhist temple offers a sanctuary and retreat for pilgrims and tourists alike. Originally build in 247 CE, it features a 3.8 m (12 ft) tall jade Buddha weighing 11 tons, as well as a large Ming-period bronze bell. Admire delicate impressionistic 18th-century paintings and calligraphy by the so-called Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou, favored by Europeans of the time. An important urban landmark, the temple was a starting point for Shanghai's first tramcar. Jing'an Temple is one of the most famous temples in Shanghai; therefore, I visited this temple, despite the weather being gloomy. Located in the Jing'an district, West downtown of Shanghai, Jing'an temple is a Tangmi Buddhist temple. The first thing that really wow me was the design and architecture of the temple, which was very beautiful and impressive with the backdrop of highrise buildings in Shanghai. Is like traditional blends in the cosmopolitan city. This temple is calm, and clean. So nice to be in this temple, to appreciate and enjoy the significant artwork in this temple, including the well know and famous Hongwu bell, and the bronze Buddha.

Jing'an Temple is the temple of Peace and Tranquility. As it is famous, you will see lots of visitors around. So it might be a little noisy. The temple is located in Jing'an District, West Nanjing Road. The design of this temple is like other temples I visited in China. It is really beautiful to watch this temple with the background of the highrise buildings. It has many halls. You need to pay to enter this place. It has some commercial shops where you can buy some souvenirs from this temple if you like.
