Walk through a quilt of rice paddies to reach Phnom Chhngok Cave Temple, filled with elephant-shaped stalactites and home to a colony of bats. Inside, you can also a 7th-century brick temple dedicated to Shiva. Protection from the elements has allowed the temple to stand for centuries, virtually unchanged and unspoiled by the passage of time. Is it really worth spending a couple of hours visiting this small cave? I was expecting much more, but got nothing in return. Pity really, because I thought it was going to be amazing. I'd give it a..... more »
the cave was great a little hot when you get there but it was good and we took a short cut with some local kids inside the cave and that was great so if you get to go do the cave with the local kids more »
Nice small temple inside a cave. $1 entry fee & $4 for a guide who knows the cave inside out. I recommend the guide if you're not going to go up and down using the stairs because finding your way out through the cave was difficult for us even with the guide. Bring a light and good non slip shoes. It was a little bit slippy in parts today and it's dry season. There are things inside the cave such as the elephant and cow rock that you might miss if it wasn't pointed out. There are also bats in the cave. Two exit ways are possible besides back down the 203 steps, one 'easy' and one 'hard'. For me the easy route was pretty difficult as I don't like climbing down uneven rocks and from heights etc but most would probably find the route manageable. The exit way is a really small gap through a rock passage that you have to crawl/shimmy through. Definitely worth the experience but once was enough for me. Really great views from the steps on the way up and some monkeys in the wild jumping through the trees.
The cave temple was nice but the lovely farm below it was great to walk through. Lots of local kids around to tell you all about it.
