Bokor Hill Station, Kampot

3.0
Ghost Town · Tourist Spot
Colonial history stands out at Bokor Hill Station, a collection of buildings originally established as a luxurious mountainous retreat from the heat for Frenchmen. During its construction in the 1920s, 900 people died due to the weather and work conditions at this remote location. The Catholic church here dates back to its opening in 1925, while other structures, like the casino built in the 1960s, were added on later. This attraction has gone through periods of destruction and abandonment over time, as well as rejuvenation. Until the 1990s, it was the last stronghold of Cambodia's Communist party, Khmer Rouge, but has since been simply a tourist attraction. Put Bokor Hill Station and other Kampot attractions into our Kampot road trip site, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • beautiful scenery spoilt by all the building work, but worth the trip. Church worth a visit as are the Buddist items. Excellent toilets at the waterfall  more »
  • . A very strange place, you see houses that are completely empty. its a Ghost town You need tuk tuk or some scooter to get between the various buildings in the large national park  more »

  • It used to be a place where you could feel the power of the past, a ghost hotel. Now it's been renewed and it lost its appeal. The view is still amazing.
  • Visited this place around 7 years ago. The hotel itself is an ideal filming location for horror movies and delivers some nice pictures. That being said I wouldn't visit the place without doing the trek up the mountain which definitely adds a necessary ingredient to the experience.
