#210 of 264 in Things to do in Bruges
A former civil registry, Oude Griffie is an early 16th-century building turned into museum. Admire the ornate facade in the style of the Flemish Renaissance before entering and checking out the current exhibits, such as the monumental fireplace of Emperor Charles created in oak, alabaster and marble. Notice the gilded sculptures of Moses, Aaron, and Justice above the pediment. The building regained its splendor after restoration in 2001. • Next to the Stadhuis building is a smaller Renaissance building, the Old Civil Registry (1537). This was once the Court for 200 years. Though smaller than his neighbor, he contrasts it for beauty, color and style, if not size. Before it was called the Palace of Freedom and it was governed until 1795. At the top of the building there is a bronze statue of Justice with her eyes tied, while on her right and left the statues of Moses and Aaron. Now is the Tourist Information Office.
  • Very interesting experience. Lots to see Lots to learn.
