The Fingers of Punta del Este, Punta del Este

Many people interpret The Fingers of Punta del Este as either a hand of a zombie god come to take his vengeance on a sinful Earth, or the grasping fingers of a buried giant. In fact, neither assumption is correct. Created by Chilean artist Mario Irrazabal in 1982, the beach sculpture has since become an iconic attraction in Punta del Este. Take an artistic photo of the sculpture and imagine all the mythical creatures it might represent. Inspirock's itinerary builder makes planning a Punta del Este trip simple and quick.

  • An unusual but interesting beach feature that I am sure will be included on any tour around this town. There is apparantly a similar but opposite statue on the west coast of South America.  more »
  • The sculpture of the fingers is an icon of Punta del Este. It was performed as part of a gathering of sculptures modern outdoor, devised by Chilean artist Mario Irarrázabal. The idea is inspired by "a hand is drowning," Recalling the endangerment of the beach. The rest of the sculptures can be seen in the central Avenue cantero, but there is a route that puts them in value. It has no value in itself to the take a picture at an iconic site. The remarkable thing is the beach that is having a nice view to the island of Lobos. It is a public beach suitable for bathroom. There are stand with lifeguards in summer, but in winter it is dangerous if you are not an experienced swimmer, since the strong waves characterized it due to high winds that hit it. It is a few blocks from Punta del Este bus terminal.

  • Built during one of the Punta's anniversaries, it's become the Punta del Este identity. The place invites you to use your creativity to take the best shots, so use and abuse your creativity to take pictures and record this astounding city!
  • This is such an awesome attraction to see if you visit Punta del Este, Uruguay! Certain parts of the day will have heavier traffic than other parts of the day, but even with other people around, it is entirely worth it to get a picture with this famous sculpture. You can even enjoy the beautiful walk along the beach where you will see multiple species of birds and the calm waves crashing.
  • This is a very unique and popular tourist destination. This artistic creation has drawn tourists from all over the world to have their photo taken amongst the hand. Truly an ingenious artistic creation. The beach is very beautiful to visit as well. If a person is staying in Montevideo, it is very easy to get here by bus.
  • Go very early in the morning if you want to avoid the crowds. It's even better for the sunrise!
  • Lindo lugar turístico
