Providing a home for 3,700 of some of the world's rarest animals, San Diego Zoo features pandas, gorillas, antelopes, orangutans, koalas, and much more. Noted for pioneering the concept of cage-free exhibits that recreate natural animal habitats, this zoo covers an area of almost 40 hectares (100 acres). Take guided tours on a bus, or hop on an overhead gondola to see the diverse habitats from the air. See different animals often found side by side in the wild, along with native plant life from places such as African rainforests and Arctic taigas. To view the collection of rare plants, visit the arboretum. Begin your visit at the visitor center, where you can pick up a free map. San Diego Zoo Reviews

Great zoo and great work they are doing. However the signage is confusing and causes a lot of double backing or missing out on certain animals. When you have limited time this wasn't helpful. The maps... more »
The world famous San Diego Zoo! Great place to spend a family day. Took our daughter here for the first time today. She was real intrigued by the orangutans! The tour ride was great as well. We plan on buying the annual pass as well to just keep coming back!
So many people raved about this zoo, and said it was a must do in San Diego. My husband and I were not disappointed! This is the best zoo I've ever been to. It's huge, and the scenery/vegetation is so lush and well thought out. You can actually get very close to the animals, and it's like you really are seeing them in their natural habitat. The animals seem happy. The zoo is easy to navigate. Be prepared to spend several hours here. I highly recommend riding the guided tour bus as soon as you get there. Be sure to sit on the top because you get a great view of the enclosures. It's a great tour, and helps you get your bearings of the zoo. Warning: DO NOT eat at the panda quick service restaurant. My husband is the least picky eater I've ever met. Literally, he will eat almost anything----and he even thought the food here was terrible.
