At the 650 sq m (7,000 sq ft) Museum of Osteology, you'll observe natural body motions and learn about the functions of different parts of the skeleton. Here the bones of about 300 animals are preserved, from tiny mice to a 12 m (40 ft) humpback whale. See giraffes, elephants, and marsupials, as well as different reptiles, birds, and primates. You'll discover how organisms change in order to become better suited to their habitats and also be able to compare the anatomy of vertebrate species, which suggest that we all have one common ancestor. At an exhibit of pathologies, find out about forensic ways to determine causes of death. Put Museum of Osteology into our Oklahoma City journey planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.
Museum of Osteology Reviews
Great little museum. The Skeletal collection is incredible! Gift shop ain't so shabby either. Filled with interesting information and artfully placed exhibits. more »
We met my niece and her husband there. We have an 8 yr old boy and 12 yr old girl. They were not disappointed or bored. It was super interesting. Make sure and read the labels. Very cool! more »
I've been to this museum several times and somehow discover something new each visit. It's a small place, but it is packed with many skeletons and facts. The exhibits are set up beautifully and the bones are displayed in an appealing and natural-looking way (no bones just lying around - they're posed as the animals would if they were living). The gift shop is great. Bones and bugs and taxidermy for sale, as well as nice shirts and glasses and magnets. I like this place a lot, and really love to take people who are from out of town (and in many cases, Oklahomans who had never heard of it before). If you haven't gone, go! It's definitely a fun and educational experience.
Really unique and interesting experience. Loved the exhibits and also had a great gift shop. Scavenger hunts for kids to help keep them occupied. $10 per ticket and even discounts for military. Would definitely recommend.
