The High Line, New York City

#2 of 18,611 in Parks in United States
A breath of fresh air in the middle of the big city, The High Line is a 1.6 km (1 mi) linear park. It's built on a short section of an abandoned elevated railway that once ran along the lower west side of Manhattan. Redesigned and planted as an aerial greenway, the first few sections of the park opened in 2009. The elevated park features gardens, birdhouses, benches, artwork, and cafes, and offers views of the city and the Hudson River. View the exhibit of mirror sculptures designed to reflect the surrounding greenery. An installation of 700 purple and gray glass panes, calibrated to match the center pixel of 700 digital pictures taken every minute on the Hudson, creates an extended portrait of the river. • Out of nowhere they did something spectacular. A missed ride. Very good. It's a 1 mile hike that's worth. And we ended up at the Chelsea market, another missed

  • Great place for walk with family or alone. Amazing transformation of old railway track into a park. Convenient in reaching here via train or car. Only problem is street parking however that is anywhere in NY. Suggestion- go there on Sunday and you will be able to find a place to park.
  • Beautiful walk, alongside what used to be train tracks, full of beautiful city views, art, sculptures, and murals. There are also beautiful trees and flowers almost in bloom, I bet it will be even prettier in a few weeks. It ends right at Chelsea's Market, where you will find authentic delicious food from all over the world, and a beautiful hip, bustling atmosphere.
