Opened in 1903, the Lyceum Theatre is one of the three oldest surviving Broadway venues (along with the Hudson and New Amsterdam Theatres). It is the oldest continuously operating legitimate theatre in New York City, and the first Broadway theatre ever to be granted landmark status (1974). It is one of the few theatres in New York which continues to operate under its original name. Designed by architects Herts & Tallant in the Beaux-Arts style, the Lyceum was built by impresario Daniel Frohman, replacing Frohman's earlier Lyceum on Fourth Avenue that closed in April 1902. The new Lyceum opened on November 2, 1903, with the play The Proud Prince. Frohman's brother Charles served as the theater's manager until his death in 1915.With our world travel planner, New York City attractions like Lyceum Theatre can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

Lyceum Theatre Reviews
Tiny and very uncomfortable old dated theatre. One of the worst theatres in Broadway District. Pretty from outside though. Wouldn't come out of choice. Came to see Be More Chill more »

This theatre was awesome! It was pretty small, which to me means that almost every seat was great. I assume some people were set behind pillars but on the back of the second level was a great view. I saw Be More Chill which I thought was a great play but it was geared more toward teens or younger adults.
Beautiful architecture, and the theatre has a comfortable feel to it. The staff is also fantastic. I had dropped my cell phone, and they were able to return it to me before I left the theatre. Super helpful!
