Muir Woods National Monument, Mill Valley

4.7
Just a short drive north of San Francisco, Muir Woods National Monument protects a pristine area of about 97 hectares (240 acres) of old-growth redwood forest. Walk among the giant trees, which are some of the tallest living things on the planet. You can choose from several trails, ranging in length and difficulty. For an easy hike through a grove of trees nearly a millennium old, take the short main trail loop. If you feel a little more adventurous, put on pair of good hiking shoes and take the 3 km (2 mi) trail to the top of "Cardiac Hill," which offers unobstructed views of San Francisco and the Pacific Ocean. • We drove out to Muir woods our first day on the west coast and had a great time. Parking reservations are a must and I would recommend going first thing in the morning. Great views and walking paths. ...  more »

  • If you want to run wild with your imagination, this nature park is the place to come to in the United States. What lies inside is massive and green. It's beyond comprehension. I had the opportunity to do this once with a friend while I was in college and it was simply mesmerizing. You feel like you're in a science fiction movie. The height of the trees and the thickness of the bark are something you see in a movie. You can walk for hours and enjoy the quiet calm of the forest. It's something you have to do at least once in your life if you have the opportunity and you're at this part of California. This is something for the family to enjoy. You will not be disappointed. I am from the East Coast and there's nothing like this here and I'm sure there's not to many places of the world that can rival it. Make sure you do your homework on prices, parking, and cell phone access. Enjoy!
  • Heaven on earth. Wonderful place to visit. Enjoyed each and every moment spend in the park. Try doing meditation in the park, you will love it. Very peaceful place. I’m sure you will love this place. Book your parking in advance, so that you don’t need to worry about it. Be there on time to avoid any confusion.
