Experience Hawaiian nature at its peak at Waimea Valley, a huge area filled with a historical park including botanical gardens, waterfalls, and swimming holes. The area was once used to cultivate crops and orchards, including taro, sweet potato, and bananas. Today, the park boasts more than 5,000 plants from around the world, along with individual gardens dedicated to Guam, Madagascar, the Seychelles, and more. Swimming is allowed when cliff-diving exhibitions are not in process, or catch one of the hula performances. We dis the hike and it is not to long, slight elevation but easy. They offer a shuttle every 15-20min to take you up and back down the trail but it cost extra per person. We went in December we got... more »
Beautiful park! The hike to the waterfall is awesome, not too strenuous, and SO worth it! Plunging into the cool water after the heat is awesomely refreshing. And the park itself is just stunningly beautiful. The variety of plants they have gathered is astounding. Well worth a visit any day.
A must see if visiting the island or looking for a nice relaxing way to bring a bathing suit. Excellent for singles, families, large groups, etc. Parking is free but limited. Access to the path is free. A cart ride is available for a fee. There is a gift shop and snack bar at the entry. Take bottled water for the walk. The waterfall is at the far end of the garden. Free life jackets are available to swim near the waterfall. Take a towel and swim suit. There is a sitting area nearby to watch fellow swimmers and rest. Lastly, take a camera as there will be numerous pictures to take. Enjoy!
