Carowinds, Charlotte

An amusement park on the border between North and South Carolina, Carowinds began as a dream project of businessman Earl Patterson Hall. The park is divided into themed sections, including a water park, dinosaurs and Planet Snoopy for little kids. You can experience intense roller coaster rides in some sections of the park. Many of the rides are interactive games, but you can also find more traditional carnival rides. Consider upgrading your ticket with a Fast Lane wristband, which gets you to the front of the lines on the majority of rides. With our international travel planner, Charlotte attractions like Carowinds can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • The park have some great rollercoasters and we had a great time. The negative in the park is the food - it is really average to low - even for a amusement park and missed a full rating based on that  more »
  • Was back in the 80’s when I went and haven’t been back since. Over priced, over crowded and wasn’t worth the money back then.  more »

  • An enjoyable time. Great staff located in the first aid section, very helpful due to a medical situation. The family center located in the kids section was great. As a new mom, it was nice to have a place to change my newborns diaper as well as feed. They had a private feeding section (curtains), highchairs, even a microwave. Would have liked more of these throughout the park. Only complaint this visit had to do with the ride Cobra, going backwards, not being able to anticipate the turn, hurt my neck.
  • Thrilling and lots of fun. This park is a lot of fun to visit but with that said, be ready to pay some good money for this attraction. Parking costs $20, General admission ranges between $45 and up at the gate. Best advice is to get these online where you will find slightly better deals on these and other necessities like Fast Lane pass. You will wait in-line for long periods of time for less than 1 minute worth of ride time on major attractions like The Intimidator or Fury. To get past the line on these you'll require a Fast Lane Plus bracelet which will cost you approximately $70 per person. Remember to bring sunscreen, a hat, shades, and a pair of good walking shoes if visiting the park during hot summer days. It's better to buy the souvenir drink bottle at $15 which will allow you to refill for free all day long. Oh yeah, and on the Roaring Rapids ride.... take your shoes and socks off, and keep them above water. Remember to click and give me a like if I helped in any way. Also check out some of my other reviews around the city to get the scoop on other places of interest. Likes are much appreciated.
  • Carowinds is by far the most exciting amusement park in the area. If you get hot during the day out in the sun, I recommend you take a trip over to Harmony Hall where there is nice and cool air conditioning and a thriving food court with highly experienced chefs ready to cook up something special for you. I was served by Andrew and he offered quick and helpful service and was very friendly. The employees of Harmony hall (specifically Andrew) made my entire Carowinds experience more enjoyable because of their great attitude and charisma. They also had a band playing up on the state in there which was cool as well. Anyways, this place offers fun rides and the season pass is great because it rained but it doesn't matter since we can go back another day.
  • Good place for a great vacation. Prices are reasonable and the rides are incredible! Spent the day at the water park, which was awesome. And then walked around and went on rides in the evening. It was the perfect day. The only complaint I would say is that a lot of the staff seemed young and inexperienced. I think that's just part of going somewhere that is seasonal. It was a nice vacation.
  • The Fury!!! Best Ride Ever & will Never Ever ride it again. LOL!!! Plenty rides for All ages. Water park also great. Wave one is Slippery when you enter. Hard to find umbrella for shade but not impossible depending hours and days you go. (Hint: go on weekdays) Dress comfortable and hat is a must! Great place, not as Expensive as Disney on Food and extras. Prices are steadily climbing though with new rides, and new fast food eateries. Buy a pizza pie instead of per slice.$$$ New hotel right across from Carowinds coming too. Exciting to see Carowinds growing.
