Stirling Castle, Stirling

4.4
Stirling Castle was not only the home of Mary Queen of Scots, but also an important center of art and culture in the 16th century. Still dominating the region’s skyline, the castle remains one of the finest examples of Renaissance architecture, with majestic halls, vaults, kitchens, and galleries. Climb the castle’s high stone walls to look over an area where medieval armies clashed and decided the fates of many European nations. Today, the site’s parade ground is often used for open-air concerts and other special events, with nearly 400,000 visitors dropping by the various attractions each year. Purchase your tickets online before stepping into the castle’s fascinating world of passion, political plots, and royal intrigue. • An easy drive from Edinburgh. Loads of parking, with a good entrance cost. Coffee in the cafe was also very good.  more »
  • One of my favorite castles in Scotland. The view overlooking Stirling is breathtaking. The castle has been well preserved.  more »

  • This is an unexpected gem. Visit is a Must. Very well set out with occasional person appearing in period clothes to explain the room/place that you are visiting. The Hall is yellow and is a bright landmark seen for miles away, and inside there is opportunity to sit in the king or queen's throne. The palace itself has grand rooms set out to show how they would have looked. On the walls outside the palace are many statues & figures, which are explained in the film room inside. The queen's gardens are a delight with brightly coloured flowers. Look over the wall for views over the jousting fields. The castle is a delight to explore, something unexpected around each corner. You need a whole day to enjoy the castle properly. Views to Wallace Monument and over the city & beyond. Shop. Cafe/restaurant. Coffee stop.
  • The best castle I've seen. Unlike some other ones you can go all over and around Stirling Castle. The restoration done is really good and it's the best looking castle I've seen inside and out. The area is really nice too. You can see the Wallace Monument near by. There is all around very good views. You can walk to the monument near by in an hour and if you do you'll cross the bridge at or where the famous Wallace battle took place. It's definitely worth going to the castle if you're in Scotland.
