In a storybook setting, Castle Combe Village has a reputation as one of England prettiest villages. Walking tours will direct you to ancient, Cotswold-type homes, properties so old they are recognized as ancient monuments. Many of the 350 residents are direct descendants to those who founded it during medieval times. Remains of the original marketplace and dismount stations for horse riders lend a charm to the area, recognized by film producers who have used it as a backdrop to "War Horse" and "Stardust." Strict rules apply to maintain its beauty and status as a wildlife preserve. • Definitely worth stopping to spend a while exploring the village, the church, and relaxing on a bench watching the stream.  more »
  • It is a typical village that is not crowded with shops and establishments, but more and more if it is tourists. It's not very big and you see it in a short time. There is a car park before arriving in the village and it is advisable to leave the car there.
