Palenque remains best known for the nearby ruins of an ancient Mayan city, which probably flourished around the 7th century CE.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Welib Ja Waterfalls and Agua Clara. Step out of the city life by going to Cascadas de Misol-Ha and Cascada de Roberto Barrios. Next up on the itinerary: don't miss a visit to Palenque ruinas, admire nature's wide array of creatures at Aluxes Ecoparque, and admire the sheer force of Agua Azul Waterfalls.

Monterrey to Palenque is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. In March, plan for daily highs up to 36°C, and evening lows to 24°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 20th (Mon) early enough to travel to Tuxtla Gutierrez.

Tuxtla, officially known as Tuxtla Gutiérrez is the capital and the largest city of the Mexican southeast state of Chiapas. Kick off your visit on the 21st (Tue): see the interesting displays at El Museo del Cafe and then Head underground at Sima de las Cotorras. On the next day, tour the pleasant surroundings at Parque de la Marimba and then take in breathtaking views at Canon del Sumidero.

San Cristóbal de las Casas, also known by its native Tzotzil name, Jovel, is a town and municipality located in the Central Highlands region of the Mexican state of Chiapas. Get some cultural insight at Foro Cultural Kinoki and Museo del ambar Lilia Mijangos. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like The Guadalupe Church and Moxviquil. There's lots more to do: see the interesting displays at Museo de Trajes Regionales, head outdoors with Grutas de Rancho Nuevo, don't miss a visit to El Arcotete, and explore the activities along Laguna Miramar.
