You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
Andrassy Avenue and Halaszbastya will appeal to history buffs. Let the collections at House of Terror Museum and Hungarian National Gallery (Magyar Nemzeti Galeria) capture your imagination. Take a break from Budapest with a short trip to Valley of the Beautiful Women in Eger, about 2 hours away. On the 6th (Sun), spend a day exploring the natural beauty of Palatinus Strandfürdő. The adventure continues: test the waters at a local thermal spa, contemplate the long history of Liberty Statue, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at St. Stephen's Basilica (Szent Istvan Bazilika), and explore the activities along Danube River.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major airport is Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport. In October, plan for daily highs up to 61°F, and evening lows to 43°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 11th (Fri) so you can travel back home.
