Often described as the city of laptops and lederhosen, Munich is an international center of business, engineering, research, and medicine that still maintains a rich cultural heritage and age-old traditions.
Get some historical perspective at Haidhausen and Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site. Head to Viktualienmarkt and Kunsthalle Munichfor some retail therapy. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Munich: Allgau-Brennerei (in Sulzberg), Linderhof Palace (in Ettal) and Old Town (in Regensburg). There's much more to do: step into the grandiose world of Neuschwanstein Castle, see the interesting displays at BMW Museum, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at St. Peter's Church, and engage your brain at Deutsches Museum.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major airports are Flughafen München-Riem, Memmingen Allgau Airport and Nuremberg Airport. In August, daily temperatures in Munich can reach 76°F, while at night they dip to 54°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Sat) to allow time to travel back home.
