Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Obidos Village and Arco da Rua Augusta. Take a break from Lisbon with a short trip to Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra, about 36 minutes away. As the busy capital of São Miguel, Ponta Delgada represents the most visited place on the island. Known for its historical buildings, the city offers 17th- and 18th-century convents and churches, as well as cobbled pedestrian streets and hidden squares.
Start off your visit on the 9th (Mon): admire the natural beauty at Jardins de Sant"Ana and then take in the dramatic natural features at Caldeira das Sete Cidades. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: contemplate the waterfront views at Lagoa do Fogo, see the sky in a new way at Furnas Research and Monitoring Centre, then admire the natural beauty at Terra Nostra Gardens, and finally explore the striking landscape at Poca Da Dona Beija.

Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Explore hidden gems such as Biblioteca Joanina - Universidade de Coimbra and University of Coimbra. Change things up with a short trip to Centro Historico de Guimaraes in Guimaraes (about 44 minutes away). Dedicate the 13th (Fri) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. Next up on the itinerary: snap pictures at Ponte de Dom Luis I, catch a live event at Estadio do Dragao, don't miss a visit to Liberdade Square, and steep yourself in history at Palacio da Bolsa.
