Situated on the confluence of the rivers Ouse and Foss, York has witnessed an abundance of major political events throughout its two millennia of existence.
Museum-lovers will appreciate National Coal Mining Museum for England and Yorkshire Air Museum. York Shambles and York City Walls are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Go for a jaunt from York to Knaresborough to see Knaresborough Castle about 40 minutes away. And it doesn't end there: see the interesting displays at National Railway Museum, admire the striking features of York Minster, take an in-depth tour of York Castle Museum, and contemplate the long history of Treasurer's House.

Bridlington is a coastal town and civil parish on the Holderness Coast of the North Sea, situated in the unitary authority and ceremonial county of the East Riding of Yorkshire approximately north of Hull. On the 19th (Fri), look for all kinds of wild species at RSPB Bempton Cliffs, then visit a coastal fixture at Flamborough Lighthouse, and then meet the residents at Sewerby Hall and Gardens. Here are some ideas for day two: explore the historical opulence of Scarborough Castle and then see the interesting displays at Streetlife Museum of Transport.

Hexham is a market town and civil parish in Northumberland, England, south of the River Tyne, and was the administrative centre for the Tynedale district from 1974 to 2009. Start off your visit on the 24th (Wed): take an in-depth tour of Corbridge Roman Town, then engage your brain at The Discovery Museum, then contemplate the long history of Victoria Tunnel, and finally admire the landmark architecture of Wallington Hall.
