See the variety of animals living at Chiang Mai Zoo, including the beloved panda bears. The first zoo of its kind in northern Thailand, the institution houses over 400 species, offering plenty to see and do--especially for younger visitors. Among the many mammals, birds, and reptiles kept here, the main attractions are undoubtedly the giant pandas. No. go! What would the Thais say when they want to and 5 times would have to pay more as a German in a zoo in Germany? If you want to see the Panda bear you have to pay the extra again. Quite sure good zoo complex, well laid out and takes a good day to get around. Most of the attractions were well kept. There is a monorail that you can ride and the kids enjoyed being able to feed elephants and ride ponies. They have a good range of animals and the enclosures are set out for reasonably good viewing. There is a food hall for lunch and plenty of other snacks available.
Awesome zoo. Different style comparing to modern European zoos but definitely worth visiting. Animals are in more natural environment. I wish I had more time there. My kids were amazed too. Pandas (Chiang Mai Zoo is one of 16 zoos outside the China that have pandas), koalas, and much more.
