See the variety of animals living at Chiang Mai Zoo, including the beloved panda bears. The first zoo of its kind in northern Thailand, the institution houses over 400 species, offering plenty to see and do--especially for younger visitors. Among the many mammals, birds, and reptiles kept here, the main attractions are undoubtedly the giant pandas. Tourists flock in great numbers to see these magnificent creatures, which remain a rare sight outside of China. • This zoo has mixed reviews for good reason. There are some really cool chances to see animals up close and feed them. However, the zoo is massive and difficult to walk. The signs are somewhat helpful, but there are large stretches of the main circuit road with nothing to see. Some of the animals seem like they might be sick. I am not a veterinary doctor, but when an animal is missing patches or fur or feathers, it doesn't look good. It may be normal and healthy, but it looks sickly. Overall this zoo seems to whisper "you should have seen me back then..." It has so many places that probably *used* to be amazing, but now they seem warn down and in desperate need of repair. This zoo and aquarium is worth the price of admission, if only just. 3.5 stars rounds up to 4.
  • Wide variety of animals that u can get pretty up close to. There are opportunities to feed the animals and the food price is reasonable. Furthermore the pandas there are very cute. Ticket price is relatively cheap and the location is quite convenient.
  • Quite a large zoo. Good selection of animals. Enclosures fairly good. Animals looked in pretty good shape. Panda exhibit perhaps not worth the extra cost. Both pandas asleep . One you couldn't see at all, other only partially. Shows were short but cute. Good day for the kids.
  • Visited during low season. This place needs more love and caring. Half of the places was empty. The further you go, the more alone you are. No staff anywhere except at the beginning and close to panda area.
  • We went for the night safari and it was fairly disappointing. Being from Canada and therefore English speaking the Tram rides were a bit annoying. Though they say it’s an ‘English’ ride you really get lumped in with Chinese and they say two words of English with the rest in Mandarin. The concept itself is really cool, but I felt like it wasn’t executed well. The two tram rides were exciting because you get close to a lot of the animals but at the same time you can’t help but think that you shouldn’t be that close. The closures were fairly small for the most part as well. The Jaguar Walking Trail was cool at night , but again the enclosures are really not the greatest. The most upsetting part however and which makes me appalled that I even spent my money there was the tiger show. The tigers were clearly terrified and distressed the entire time and they were consistently poked with a sharp metal pole if they did not follow instructions. It is very upsetting that the World Zoo Federation lets this happen. It is truly a Chinese tourist trap. I am a huge animal lover and I wish I hadn’t gone. They have some cool animals that aren’t in any of the zoos in North America I’ve seen but other than that it was completely not worth it.
