One of Switzerland's best-preserved medieval quarters, Altstadt Luzern attracts visitors with its maze of narrow streets, cobbled passages, and public squares. Located just north of the Reuss River and surrounded by the remains of Lucerne's medieval city walls and towers, the old quarter features an idyllic lakeside promenade flanked by a string of half-timbered buildings with elaborately decorated fronts. The pedestrianized Old Town contains most of the city's major cultural attractions, including the oldest wooden footbridge in Europe. This easily recognizable landmark serves as a convenient starting point for sightseeing tours. Fascinating old, beautifully preserves buildings, many with large frescoes depicting life, guilds and hunting of bygone years. Very clean. Many little alleyways where shops and eateries can be found. ... more »
Had a great stay!! Expensive for sure, but I guess that's just Switzerland in general. So can't knock it for that. I needed to call my hotel in Germany I was going to after this to tell them something but I was having trouble calling from my room, and the lady at the front desk helped me use one of their hotel phones and got me in contact with them and everything went very smoothly overall! Amazing place to stay, especially given the location. Definitely recommend.
The Krone Hotel is well located in beautiful Lucerne within the Old Town and an easy walk to the train station and the major attractions. Although you can walk from the train pulling luggage, I recommend you get a taxi. We enjoyed our stay there. The room is well appointed with small details like a magnifying make up mirror, an accessible shower and comfortable bed. The breakfast is well priced and very nice at 19 CHE. We compared it to finding a cafe on the street and it really is a better bargain. The staff were helpful and pleasant and the rooms very clean.
