Trip Planner: Europe / Switzerland / Canton of Bern / Bern Mittelland District / Bern / The Cathedral of Bern
Rising over the old town, The Cathedral of Bern stands as the tallest cathedral in Switzerland. The structure's crowning feature is its 100.6 m (330 ft) tower, which affords views of the Alps on a clear day from the top. To get there, you'll need to climb about 350 steep stone steps, which take you past the original church bells. Built in 1421, today the Gothic cathedral is a Cultural Property of National Significance. Pay the small entrance fee to visit the tower, or enjoy a free cathedral tour of the main area. The Cathedral of Bern Reviews
We decided to stop at this cathedral after visiting the Kunst Art Gallery. I sat in a pew and looked at the beautiful stained glass windows. more »
Das Berner Münster ist eine sehr schöne gotische Kathedrale mit wunderbaren Kreuzrippengewölbe und ein schönes Gestühl aus Holz. Unbedingt auch ansehen sollte man den Park, der an das Münster grenzt. more »The Bernm Münster is a very beautiful Gothic cathedral with wonderful cross-rib vaults and a beautiful wooden stall. You should also take a look at the park, which borders the cathedral.
This is a beautiful church in Bern. The architecture is amazing, even the smallest of the details will make you feel awestruck that how beautifully it is created. Some part of it is still under renovation bit that doesn't obstruct your way inside. The church is located on the ground floor. There is a small fee if you want to go up(through the elevator)for the amazing view. If not you can sit in the church as well.
The main doors of the cathedral are very ornate and well worth approaching. The platform behind/south of the cathedral also offers wonderful views and could be easily missed, go and seek it out! There was scaffolding up when I went, so no great pictures of the cathedral, but then I went up the stairs. What a view! You must be okay with a LOT of stairs but the view is worth it! There are a few places to stop on the way up and each stop provides another cool spot to take a picture!
