Virtually unchanged for the last six centuries, Venice is actually a group of islands made famous by a series of canals, bridges, monuments, piazzas, and narrow pedestrian lanes.
On the 21st (Sun), don't miss a visit to St. Mark's Square, contemplate the long history of Ponte dei Sospiri, admire the landmark architecture of Doges' Palace, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, then explore the activities along Canal Grande, and finally take in the views from Ponte di Rialto. Keep things going the next day: admire the masterpieces at Peggy Guggenheim Collection, then admire the landmark architecture of Basilica di San Marco, and then contemplate the long history of St Mark's Campanile.

Start off your visit on the 23rd (Tue): see the interesting displays at Galleria dell'Accademia, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, and then examine the collection at Uffizi Gallery. Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Palatine Hill and Vatican Museums. Get some historical perspective at Piazza Navona and Colosseum. When in Rome, make a side trip to see Villa Adriana in Tivoli, approximately 38 minutes away. Next up on the itinerary: pause for some serene contemplation at St. Peter's Basilica, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Church of St. Louis of the French, admire the landmark architecture of Pantheon, and ponder the design of Trevi Fountain.

Take a train from Florence to Rome in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of flight and train. In May in Rome, expect temperatures between 27°C during the day and 16°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 27th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
