San Felipe de Puerto Plata, Puerto de Plata, often referred to as simply Puerto Plata, is the ninth-largest city in the Dominican Republic, and capital of the province of Puerto Plata. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Malecon Puerto Plata and Estrella Avenida. Venture out of the city with trips to Cabarete (Spas & Wellness, The Dollar Shop, & more), Paradise Island & The Mangroves (Cayo Arena) (in Punta Rucia) and Zipline (in Sosua). Next up on the itinerary: trot along with a tour on horseback, look for gifts at Joyeria Las Americas, see the interesting displays at Amber Museum, and take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Pico Isabel de Torres.

Las Terrenas

Las Terrenas is a town on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic, located in the province of Samaná. Kick off your visit on the 22nd (Mon): trot along with a tour on horseback, go for a stroll along the water at Playa El Portillo, and then take in the dramatic scenery at El Salto del Limon. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: stroll through Playa Bonita.

Traveling by car from Puerto Plata to Las Terrenas takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Traveling from Puerto Plata in May, Las Terrenas is somewhat warmer at night with lows of 29°C. On the 23rd (Tue), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
