Motobu-cho, Japan

Formed by the gradual merging of several old fishing villages, today the island town of Motobu-cho boasts paradisal beaches of white sand, clear waters, and a rich array of wildlife.
Get some historical perspective at Shurijo Castle and Nakijin Castle Remains. Get in touch with nature at Nirai Beach and Manza Beach. Explore Motobu-cho's surroundings by going to Okuma Beach (in Kunigami-son), Busena Beach (in Nago) and Sunset Beach (in Chatan-cho). There's still lots to do: go for a stroll along the water at Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, enjoy the sand and surf at Kariyushi Beach, stroll through Tropical Beach, and look for all kinds of wild species at Cape Manza.

Miyakojima, Japan

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
We've included these beaches for you: Yonaha Maehama Beach and Painagama Beach. Escape the urban bustle at Sunayama Beach and Aragusuku Beach. There's still lots to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Toguchi no Hama, steep yourself in history at Sabautsuga, take in the views from Irabu Bridge, and make a trip to Ikema Ohashi Bridge.

Getting from Motobu-cho to Miyakojima by combination of ferry and flight takes about 4.5 hours. May in Miyakojima sees daily highs of 81°F and lows of 73°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 25th (Thu) to allow enough time to travel to Himeji.

The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
Start off your visit on the 26th (Fri): make a trip to Otemae Street, admire the natural beauty at Kokoen Garden, then explore the historical opulence of Himeji Castle, and finally make a trip to Shoshazan Engyoji. Keep things going the next day: make a trip to Awaji Highway Oasis, contemplate the long history of Ruins of Akashi Castle, and then snap pictures at Akashi Kaikyo Bridge.

You can do a combination of flight and train from Miyakojima to Himeji in 5 hours. Traveling from Miyakojima in May, expect Himeji to be slightly colder, temps between 71°F and 62°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 28th (Sun) to allow enough time to take a train to Hiroshima.

Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Miyajima and Hiroshima Castle. Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park are good opportunities to explore the local culture.
