Inverness, often described as the Gateway to the Highlands, is a thriving commercial and industrial center.
Urquhart Castle and Cromarty East Church will appeal to history buffs. The Highlanders' Museum (Queen's Own Highlanders Collection) and Inverness Museum and Art Gallery will appeal to museum buffs. Step out of Inverness with an excursion to Dunrobin Castle and Gardens in Golspie--about 1h 20 min away. There's still lots to do: get your bearings at Culloden Battlefield, delve into the distant past at Clava Cairns, contemplate the waterfront views at River Ness, and step into the grandiose world of Fort George.

Fort William


Fort William is the second largest settlement in the Highlands of Scotland with around 10,000 inhabitants — and the largest town: only the city of Inverness is larger.Fort William is a major tourist centre, with Glen Coe just to the south, Aonach Mòr to the east and Glenfinnan to the west, on the Road to the Isles. Your inner history buff will appreciate Eilean Donan Castle and Glenfinnan Monument. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Glenfinnan Viaduct and Saint Andrew's Church. Step out of Fort William with an excursion to Fort Augustus in Fort Augustus--about 50 minutes away. Next up on the itinerary: see the interesting displays at West Highland Museum, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Ben Nevis, and take in the dramatic scenery at Steall Waterfall.

Stirling is a city in central Scotland. Start off your visit on the 1st (Mon): step into the grandiose world of Stirling Castle, then explore the world behind art at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, and then contemplate the long history of Glasgow Cathedral.
