  Of early Christian origins such as the Baptistry of St. John in the Atrium, very beautiful the ancient frescoes and furnishings, under the altar the Gothic ark of St. Faithful and the altar of suffrage memory to the assistance of those condemned to death. Beautiful the original rosette of the 500, the only neo the interior atmosphere a bit gloomy and dark.

  I have no idea why this place has so many one-word 5-star reviews. It's an extremely plain and boring building that looks squished between other buildings. If you look at my photo, that's literally ALL there is to the outside of the basilica. This is the least impressive basilica I've seen in Italy. They project images on it at night, but they need to do that to make it remotely interesting. I glanced inside but it's not very small compared to the other places.

  Bell Tower rings on half hour! Just such a stunning example of historic architecture... well worth sitting outside near this beautiful basilica while enjoying a cold drink.. Heavenly! 😇 🇮🇹
