Chateau de Malmaison, Rueil-Malmaison

Once the residence of Napoleon Bonaparte and Empress Josephine de Beauharnais, Chateau de Malmaison boasts original 19th-century decor, paintings, furniture, and a large collection of porcelain. You can take a guided tour or explore the museum on your own. Assorted rooms include the Chamber of Napoleon, billiard room, and music room. The library features mahogany furniture from the 18th century and Nicolas Constant Lemaire's celestial globe from 1788. Head to the dining room to see Josephine's porcelain service. This room also contains murals painted by Louis Lafitte in 1800 representing six pompéiennes dancers. Josephine's luxurious apartments feature her original bed and a simply decorated anteroom. Look for the famous painting by Jacques-Louis David, "Napoleon Crossing the Alps." • There are not only Versailles, but also great other castles at the gates of Paris. If you are a little interested in Napoleon and Josephine, you should definitely make a detour to the Chateau de Malmaison. On three floors you can immerse yourself in the history here, an audio guide informs in addition to the already detailed panels. In addition to the premises of the castle, there is also a short trip to St Helena and Napoleon's last years in exile on the second floor. And then, of course, there is the wonderful park with Josephine's rose garden.

  • What a beautiful place! Large rooms decorated and carefully furnished. With refinement and originality we delve into the history of this atypical Napoleon-Josephine couple. Very reasonable price and audioguide succinct but interesting. Next time we'll make the park.

  • Incredible experience that I am not about to forget! If you go in May beginning June, the rose gardens are still in bloom and the fragrance is out of this world! The château itself is beautiful and getting in is stepping in history! You can smell amber and wood and it is just outstanding! Well done! The visit is a good 2h and for an extra euro you can visit the gardens/park. 10/10 👌🏻
  • Liked the private residence of Napoleon & Josephine intimate home & gardens. 👍 The imperial couple had their best days @ Malmaison, you can feel it. ❤️🇲🇫
