  • This white marble Venus, called "Genetrix" (the mother), which is also in the Romans the goddess of nature and gardens, is in its element amid the roses and flowerbeds, from the garden of plants. Work of Louis Charles Dupaty (1771-1825) in 1810, during his stay in Rome, she was honored by Chateaubriand in her memoirs of besides falls. It was offered at the Museum but remained in the Gallery of Venus in the Muséum until 1851, where it landed here. Yet usually, this Venus is represented in "Majesty" that is to say straight with the elegance of gestures. This one is lightly vouted in the position of movement, dragging behind it strange things, a dead Eagle and what resembles a torch and also a terrestrial globe. It also has fairly wide hips, as a symbol of fertility. This Venus there is therefore unprecedented and slightly shifted, compared to its usual image. Charles Dupaty, was Grand Prix of Rome in 1799, at 28 years old, Member of the Institute in 1816 and then Professor at the school of fine arts in Paris from 1823.
