  • This work, in white marble, is located in the beautiful garden of the Roses of the Park. The State commissioned Félix Sanzel (1829-1883), from this work in 1867, after the plaster test, exhibited at the Salon 1861, has achieved great success. He also obtained a medal in 1868 for the quality and expressiveness of his sculpture. The fashion of ancient Greek or Roman themes, has always fascinated the artists as it allows them, to divert the pudiboned censorship when it comes to representation of bare beings. Here, however, the sculptor has carefully placed a cloth on the sex of the Angel. The Angel is actually personified by Cupid, the Roman god of love with his classical attributes, the quiver for his arrows, but it is empty, therefore defenseless. and then it has wings; But it lacks the bow.... which was probably more difficult to integrate into the work. The fauna, who holds him prisoner, and whose bust is seen but dominates him, is the caricature of a sadist and perverse being in the Romans. It has a threatening air and fixes the head of the angel who expresses the dread, with envy.... Some, at the time, called this work "lascivious" others more recently of "Pédo Sataniste". Certainly, with a narrow view and in the first degree you can... SIC This sculpture is a good Bill and is especially suited to the romantic setting of the rose garden. Each one is then free to think about what he wants, according to his own fantasies....

  • In the aisles of the garden of plants, you will encounter this beautiful marble work titled "captive love". Created in 1868, it is due to the Parisian sculptor Félix Sanzel, who died in his hometown in 1883. This sculpture seems curious. The expression of the face of the child displays a dread because it seems to be trapped by a fauna leaning on him with a disturbing smile....
