  • Dante Alighieri, is here depicted in a black episode "the hell" of his Divine Comedy. He strikes the supposed head of Bocca degli Abati, traitor at his camp of the Guelphs Florentine in 1260.... who's ashore!!! Dante is supposed to be staged on this statue. He is dressed in black with a Florentine bonnet on his head, dressed in a large mantle, which gives him a threatening look. He seems to be observing his head on the ground with disdain. Jean Paul Aubé (1837-1916), sculptor of this work in bronze, neo-Baroque style, in 1882, has perfectly made his subject. Author of many works in France, Jean Paul Aubé, has been a professor at the school of fine arts in Paris and winner of numerous competitions. This statue is located west of the Michel Foucault square in front of the Collège de France, at the corner of Saint Jacques and the schools. It is accessible by metro station "Cluny la Sorbonne" line no. 10, then you have to go up the street Saint Jacques to the South.
