  • This bronze statue, of Nicolas de Condorcet, is located in front of the Institute of France, at no. 13 quai Conti. He looks down the Seine and the Pont des Arts and sits on a pedestal that is installed on the site. The work is by the sculptor Jacques Perrin in 1880 and "finished article" is a remarkable elegance. Condorcet is standing in position of movement, the right foot forward and your right hand on the chest. He wears the clothes of his time with tight short pants and stockings, as well as a frock coat with large collar and open down. He is wearing a wig on the head slightly bent, as inspiration. He wears a document under the left arm, to remind that he's also a man of writing. Nicolas de Condorcet (1743-1794) was a mathematician, philosopher of the Enlightenment, and politician. He prepared the spirits for the Revolution, but it will be revolutionary fanatics, the beginning of terror victim. This statue is elegant and the sculptor well rendered expressions and positions, paying tribute to 'the subject' the original statue was melted in 1943 by the Vichy regime. But in 1991, a new identical work was put in its place. You can access this statue, by the metro station "Pont Neuf" line no. 7, then must cross the Seine on the bridge and turn right towards the quai Conti.
