Statue de Bordeaux Reviews
Intéressant de voir que cette statue montre un blason afin de représenter la ville. A la lecture, il s’agit d’un léopard, mais je peux voir aussi une forteresse avec une tour à gauche, il s’agit donc ... more »Interesting to see that this statue shows a coat of the house in order to represent the city. On reading, it is a leopard, but I can also see a fortress with a tower on the left, so it is the city of Bordeaux.

They were made in 1836 by the Parisian sculptor Louis-Denis Caillouette (1790-1868). A little less famous than James Pradier (1790-1852) and Jean-Pierre Cortot (1787-1843) respectively in charge of this statuary ensemble for the NE and NO entries of the Place de la Concorde, Caillouette (sometimes spelled Caillouet or Cailhouet), won some awards for his sculptural works including "Marius on the Ruins of Carthage" (1809) at the National Higher School of Fine Arts in Paris (ENSBA). In addition to the Place de la Concorde, one can admire some of Caillouette's public works at the Luxembourg Gardens (statue of Mary of Medici, 1847), at the Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile (bas-relief entitled "The Return of the Armies," 1834), at the Church of the Madeleine (statue of St. Elizabeth, 1840), the Louvre Museum and Versailles. As with other allegorical statues depicting French cities in the Place de la Concorde, those dedicated to the cities of Nantes and Bordeaux, as well as the pedestals that serve as pedestals, would benefit from being restored.
