  • This square is located in the 16th arrondissement and has been named since 1881, to recall the presence of an American population near the former US Embassy. This is how we find symbols of the Franco-American friendship since La Fayette with the monument dedicated to Washington and Lafayette, then that of the American volunteers of the 1914-1918 war, in the Foreign Legion. Other symbols also exist here, such as those who honor, General Pershing, US Ambassador Miron Herrick and even the American dentist Horace Wells!!. The square, which is located in the square, honors Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), Ambassador to France, then President of the United States. Passing here on a day of good weather, all these symbols remind us of past acts, Honorable, solidarity, which forged what was called "the unwavering Franco-American friendship". Today all these beautiful principles seem swept away by a selfish and exacerbated mercantilism, which suggests that the modern world is slipping away! But memories resist time. I tried to pause in the garden but, given the crowd, on the benches and on the lawns, I escaped. This square appears large and then in fact, if we remove the children's playground, the piece of lawn neutralised, there are no longer many spaces. Admittedly it is partly shaded, the vegetal setting is neat, but it is not at all peaceful. The good weather comes back, it becomes appreciated for some, especially as a picnic place.

  • Established in 1881, this square is in the middle of the place of the United States. Rectangular in shape, it is very quiet and has benches, tables and chairs. You can ask, stroll and have a good time. You can also admire the monument of Lafayette and Washington, the general of the armies John Pershing memorial, the monument to the American volunteers, the bust of the former American Ambassador Myron Herrick... There is also a playground for small children. A nice ride in a nice neighborhood. Opening week at 8 o'clock and on weekends at 9 (see photo of schedules).
