  • This block of carved white stone is located on the right and at the foot of the Trocadero basin when facing the Palais de Chaillot. It is the work of the sculptor Pierre Marie Poisson (1876-1953), for the universal exposition of 1937. This theme of "youth", as the "succession of generations", is very fashionable between the two wars. In this monumental work, the sculptor represents a succession of young men and young girls, who look beautiful, stripped, in a very "Bacchusian" setting with clusters of suspended grapes and an abundance of climbing plants. Animals are also depicted with, at the head of the carved block, a young girl in motion surrounded by a large veil, accompanied by her dog. A man's fist lifted and clenched, holds a RAM and a young man carries a basket of Wicker on his head, figuring out the activities of the campaigns. The style is figurative, according to the technique called "Ronde Bosse" with soft shapes according to a presentation in alternative mode with young people standing, elongated or crouched, which makes the tour of the carved block; This monument corresponds to the values of the time with the popular front. The aim is to represent France under very fashionable aspects, with "youth" which is our hope for the future, and this, at the universal exposition of 1937. Pierre Marie Poisson, is a graduate of fine arts and author of numerous monuments to the dead of the great war and also the official bust of "La Marianne" in 1933.... as well as many works when he resided in Algeria.

  • This monumental block carved on its four faces, titled "youth", was produced for the exhibition of 1937. It is located at the end of the Trocadero gardens, on the edge of the basin, along the Avenue Gustave V of Sweden. It forms a pair with the one titled "joy of life". This is the work of the sculptor Pierre Marie Poisson, born in Niort and died in Paris in 1953. Beautiful work, look at the sculptures.
