It is the work of the sculptor Louis Ernest Drivier (1878-1951), for the universal exposition of 1937. This theme of "the joy of life" is recurring, and very fashionable, to make forget the horrors of the great war. It is the period of the popular front (coalition of left-wing parties in power). But alas, "the joy of life" will be short-lived. In this monumental work, the sculptor represents a youth that has an haughty and proud, muscular, manly, bare and eclectic appearance in his hobbies. One can see represented; "the sport", "the friendship between boy girl", "the music" with the violin girl, "the modern dance", "the happy and healthy childhood" with the young boy fed with fruit, finally with "the action", by the young man riding a fiery horse. The style is figurative, according to the technique called "Ronde Bosse" with soft shapes. The presentation is in "comic book" mode, which makes the tour of the carved block; It corresponds to the concepts of the time when one wants to magnify the subject. This, to be in the official representation of the values of France, during the World Exposition. Louis Ernest Drivier, was a pupil of Auguste Rodin and a friend of the brilliant Antoine Bourdelle. He cultivates neo-romanticism, which is reflected in this work of "the joy of life". He is the author of numerous monuments to the dead and Commemoratives, in France.

It forms a pair with the one entitled "the youth". This is the work of the Grenoble sculptor Léon Ernest Drivier, who died in Paris in 1951. This work was performed for the exhibition of 1937. A wonderful job to admire.
