Place des Abbesses, Paris

#335 of 2,945 in Things to do in Paris
Head to Hollywood's idea of Paris--the quaint cafes, hip shops, and bohemian life--at the iconic Place des Abbesses. Trendy, yet still timeless, the triangular square boasts a great place to shop, visit up-and-coming designers, and people-watch. As an added bonus, this area boasts one of the last two original Art Nouveau subway canopies designed by renowned architect Hector Guimard. • For me, the place des Abbesses is first the point of arrival of the tourist mass come to visit Montmartre. It's also his famous carousel. And it's still this irresistible smell of caramelized peanuts that the air call makes us feel in the same subway station. And it's finally a whole bunch of good little restaurant and shops nearby. An iconic subway that deserves a few lines...:-for its 8 floors of spiral staircase to climb to hope to reach the exit if one does not take the elevator, and whose wall is beautifully adorned with photos of Montmartre. 8 floors to which it is necessary to add the equivalent of 2 additional floors of stairs to actually exit the station...-for its elevator that falls very (too) regularly broken down and that leaves no choice but to make the stairs that I climbed 2 by 2 running to finish the fastest with that. With children, a stroller or elderly people, it can quickly turn into a nightmare. Welcome to the Parisian Metro...-for its rather lamentable window service, the teller being very often absent, leaving the poor tourists delivered to themselves, lost with the ticket machine or blocked by the system of passage or not knowing How to spend with a stroller or suitcases. The joy of holidays in Paris what... Fortunately I was taking this subway every day to help 1 or 2 of them occasionally. I think that many will understand... Anyway, it's better to smile.
