  • This monument, "A grateful Belgium", which dates from 1923, is located on the place of the Queen Astrid of Belgium in the 8th arrondissement near the Alma bridge. It is placed in the middle of a green space, with lawn, massive flowers, surrounded by chestnut trees in flower. The dedication is clear "A France, the grateful Belgium, 1914-1918". It refers probably to the support of the France to welcome exiles, fleeing the advance of the German army during the war 1914-1918. In addition, the France welcomes the Belgian Government during the occupation of the country. The monument is of a classic representative. It has two women standing, facing each other and holding by the hand, at the top of two young children. These children, who hold the Belgian flag, represent the future of the two countries that they must protect. Left, the woman wears the Phrygian cap and the stick of the Republic at the flank, symbols of the France. On the right, he is probably the Queen Astrid of Belgium, who wears a bun and an antique Toga. The base door, serious, numerous city coats of arms. This allegory, sweetness and feelings, is unusual for very violent acts of war. The work, is limestone stonemason of Belgium, the Belgian sculptor Isidore of Rudder and René Foucart was the architect. It was inaugurated on 14 July 1923. It is accessible by the metro station "Alma Marceau" line no. 9.

  • This small triangular square is close to the Alma bridge and forms an angle with the avenue Montaigne and the course 1 Albert. In its Center, you can admire the monument of the "recognition of the Belgium to the France" directed by De Rudder and inaugurated in 1923. Opposite, in the median, is the statue "The Seine" of the sculptor Gérard Choain, completed in 1962. You can come by metro, station "Alma Marceau" or bus line 72 "Alma Marceau" stop.
