National Archives, Paris

4.5
A grand mansion in Paris's third arrondissement built for the Prince and Princess of Soubise now houses National Archives. The archives museum features significant government documents, as well as changing exhibits. Visit the iron chest, home to all versions of the French constitution from the original of 1791 to the present day. Browse French government materials and international documents detailing France's foreign relations. The building itself is worth a trip to view both the Rococo-style interior and the well-manicured gardens outside the Baroque mansion. • The Palace, which is part of the National Archives complex, can be visited because there is a small museum on the history of France. The main reason to go however are the wonderful rooms that have preserved the original rococo decoration. Of these environments there are few left in Paris and almost no one is open to the public, so I advise you to take advantage of the opportunity. The courtyard is wonderful, with the facade of the palace, in perfect classic style French, framed by a peristyle of 56 columns (free entrance).

  • I went there because there is a will of Marie Antoinette, but i was sorry because I couldn't see it while i was preparing for the event.
