Musee du Luxembourg, Paris

#37 of 183 in Museums in Paris
Initially housed in the Palais du Luxembourg, Musee du Luxembourg was the first French art museum to be opened to the public--in 1750. As one of the leading exhibit spaces in Paris, it houses the masterpieces of Botticelli, Raphaël, Titian, Arcimboldo, Veronese, Gauguin, Matisse, Vlaminck, Modigliani, and Lucas Cranach. Much of the work first shown here has found its way into other museums of Paris, including the Jeu de Paume, the Orangerie, and ultimately the Musée National d'Art Moderne and the Musée d'Orsay. • Interesting exhibition on these pioneers of modern décor, beautiful works on display even if the light is not at the top. Fault of this museum! What is painful are the visitors with their audio system who remain planted in front of the canvases ...

  • Run to see this magnificent exhibition. Maurice Denis, Bonnard, Vuillard, Paul Sérusier etc are beautifully exhibited and explained. Ahead of their time, they deserve attention. Real wonders.

  • Very good and professional staff makes this museum a special. All i saw was amazing and very good. Very useful place of this museum give you possibility very fast visit it on your way to job or to home. All persons of staff very kind and available for requests personally. I recommend this museum for really interesting resting.
  • The rooms are small, so try to go when there's not a lot of people for maximum enjoyment :) Right next to the gardens for a nice walk afterwards. If coming for an art exposition, get your ticket online for less waiting time ! Enjoy :)
