Here, it is a tribute to the Parisian composer Charles Gounod, who died in Saint-Cloud in 1893. This work, created in 1902, is due to the illustrious sculptor Marius Jean Antonin Mercié, known as "Antonin Mercié", born in Toulouse and died in Paris in 1916. The choice of Parc Monceau is explained by the fact that Gounod lived nearby, at the 20th place of General Catroux, formerly place Malesherbes. You will see the bust of the composer, accompanied by three heroines of his operas: Marguerite de "Faust", Sapho singing the praise and Juliet of "Romeo and Juliet". This is a very nice tribute and a great achievement. Admire the details.

Charming place, to honor this composer with multiple talents. This monument depicts Gounod in a bust, on a pedestal, already old, with his abundant beard and moustache. At his feet and on the left, we see musical instruments, harp, whose little angel who played it disappeared, a violin, a zither, etc. On the right, three women standing, represent the heroines of her most famous operas, singing the praise to the master. This is how we see: Marguerite, of Faust, Juliette, of Romeo and Juliet and finally Mireille, of the eponymous Opera. This work of 1897, by Antoine Mercié (1845-1916) is of extreme finesse, which is the major style of this sculptor. Certainly, like all the monuments of this era, this one is conventional and classical without originality, stacking the striking "images" of the subject, without really searching for original composition. But for all I find its realization very neat.
